Halloween

Happy Halloween!I tried all morning to get a good picture of the boys, but they just weren't on the same wave length as me so this is what you get. I realize that bloggers all over will be posting pictures of their kids in their costumes and here are my boys in their shirts. I would say sorry, but I'm not so I won't. :)Did you know that if you wait until a few weeks before Halloween you can get Old Navy shirts for 50% off? Pretty good deal when they only start at $5. I'm always up for a good deal! Vance loves his spider shirt. We made spider headbands the other day and he loved them. He didn't ruin them for about two days and that is saying something for him. His other favorite Halloweenish thing would have to be pumpkins! (Just not sticking his hand in one).
And here is a picture of the boys from last Halloween. Just because. They both had mummy shirts (If you can't tell).
Of course, Tanner hosed his first outfit in spit up, but it worked out since Grandma Jeppson had given him the cute ghost hat, bib, and mittens. So here is my little ghost.
It's amazing how fast little ones grow!

Veggie Tales

I don't know how familiar any of you are to Veggie Tales. It is one of the things that Vance is into lately. He likes to do the beginning dialogue with the movie. This isn't the best time he's done it, but he does it a little and he looks darn cute wearing his hat. :)

Dancing

Tanner loves music. As an infant I quickly learned that I could not sing him to sleep. Anytime I started to sing to him those big blue eyes would open wide and he would stare at my mouth and watched until I stopped so I saved singing for awake time. As he has gotten older he can show his enjoyment of music through dancing so I thought I would share a video of him dancing. I love it and I hope you do too. :)

Decorating Pumpkins

The boys decorated their pumpkins today. Tanner had a great time poking his pumpkin with the marker. Vance had fun drawing, making me help him with a face, and then putting stickers over the face. Here are some pictures. The second picture Vance is clapping for Tanner. I guess he approved of Tanner's decorating.
Vance insisted that I cut the lid of the pumpkin off. I think he has watched "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" too many times. I got prepared for a big mess, stripped the boys down to only the essentials and cut out the top of Vance's pumpkin. Can you believe that neither boy would stick their hand in the pumpkin? Tanner came close as you can see in his picture, but no I had to be the one to fish out all the pumpkin seeds. Silly boys.

Kisses?

I guess I've been video happy lately. Tanner is funny about kisses. If you tell him to give you a kiss he will lean his forehead (or whatever other body part) into you so that you can kiss him. This was my attempt to show you all. Vance loves being videotaped and decided he wanted to copy Tanner. Oh, Tanner was also fascinated with the blinking light on the camera. Unfortunately, I kind of had to be in the video so ignore me as much as you can.

Sick Boys

If you think the boys in this picture look miserable you are right. They both have colds. Vance started feeling sick Friday and Tanner joined shortly after that. Stephen stayed home with them from church on Sunday (I had a primary program) and they are still trying to get over them. Oh, and just in case you are wondering I didn't pose them for this picture they laid next to each other all on their own.

Happy Birthday Mandy!

Wishing my sister-in-law, Mandy a happy birthday today! Here she is pictured with her cute little family the day Luke was sealed to her and Jake. So sweet. Obviously, this was back, last February. We've enjoyed living near you Mandy and we hope you have a fun birthday!

Pumpkin Patch

We took the boys to a pumpkin patch yesterday to pick our some pumpkins. They thought it was great. Vance loved running around and looking at all of the pumpkins and Tanner looked around pointing and saying, "Oh." at everything. Here are a few pictures from our adventure.

Seems like Yesterday

It seems like yesterday Vance was learning how to walk and now it is Tanner doing it. He is still taking just shaky steps, but he gets better and braver everyday.

Tanner and his Dad

Tanner is definitely a Momma's boy however, lately he has been realizing that Dad is pretty cool too.

Introducing the

HALLOWEEN GRINCH

Yes, I am the Halloween Grinch here in the flesh. Since it is October I feel I have the right to dedicate one post to ranting about how I hate Halloween. Then I will go back to pretending... I am in no way trying to convince anyone to hate Halloween like I do in fact almost everyone I know not only likes the holiday, they love it so I obviously hold no ill-will against those who enjoy this holiday, but as for me I HATE it. Oh, and please don't confuse my Halloween hatred for Fall hatred. I love fall. There are two things I don't like about fall- Halloween and the fact that we just don't get enough fall weather where we live, it goes to winter too fast.

Okay, so why do I hate Halloween? You are probably wondering. I will tell you my first memory of Halloween. I was about three (Mom, Dad, Holly?). It is sketchy and vague as you might imagine. I just remember being carried across the street by my dad to the neighbor's house (one I played with pretty much daily). I was balling. I didn't want to go. I don't remember any specifics like why I didn't want to go or what made me go hysterical but there you go- my first Halloween memory.

The memories don't improve much. Sure, it was fun to dress up (How could someone do drama for four years and not like dressing up?) I generally chose to be something very girly. But who likes to see scary masks or painted faces? I remember (another vague memory) watching "The Boogie Man" in elementary school on Halloween day when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I think that is what the movie was called. I don't remember. I just remember being scared.

I guess I am pointing out that it started off just plain being scared of the holiday. Eventually I grew out of that and I still have continued to hate it. Let's think about this. Trick-or-Treating is what? Oh, kids begging candy off of people and for what purpose? Have these kids done anything worthy of a reward? No, in fact there is the dumb saying that goes something like this, "Trick or Treat, Smell my feet, give me something good to eat." WHAT?!!! You are going to make me smell your feet and give you candy?! I don't think so.

As I got older and became a teenager my hatred was easier to hide. No one thinks anything of a teenager that doesn't want to go trick-or-treating. Although teenage years brings up another point I hate about Halloween. For children I see it as a way to beg for candy for no good reason, for teenagers it is an excuse to cause mischief. Please tell me you agree that Halloween brings out the immaturity in teenagers and their pranks-big and small.

Now I'm a mom. This will be Vance's third Halloween. Do I want my prejudice against Halloween to be past on? No, I don't at all. Last year Vance and I decorated cookies and we also colored on a pumpkin. I put the boys in Halloween shirts. That was enough for me. My kids are young enough, they don't know the difference. Do I plan on taking my two year old and one year old trick or treating? Definitely not, they won't eat the candy anyway. Do I plan on taking them anywhere else that day? Nope, I won't have a car that day anyway. So I ask you, what is the point of putting them in a costume? I see none. Therefore, we will probably be sticking to something like we did last year and every year until Vance knows the difference (which may be next year and it may not be for 3 more years).

I get tired of October. Growing up it was, "What are you going to be for Halloween?" from your best friend to a complete stranger. Now, it is "What are your kids going to be for Halloween?" Trust me people you don't want to open that can of worms!

Accident Free Day

I know the day isn't over, but since Vance is down for the night I can say it is for him. I started potty training Vance on Saturday and today was our first day with zero accidents! (You were thinking injuries from my title, weren't you? That will be post worthy if it ever happens) Anyway, I thought I'd share our good news. Time just flies by...

Tagged

My cousin, Melanie tagged me so here it is for your viewing pleasure.

1. I hate chewing gum.

2. I had a Ganglion Cyst on the back of my left wrist for many years. My sister pushed on it hard enough to go away at one point, but it returned. It was so hard the second time that it had to be removed surgically. I was put under and everything for the procedure and had my hand wrapped in a cast. (Not fun since I'm a lefty)

3. I am 5 foot 1 inch (the shortest member of my family. My husband is 6 foot 3 inches.

4. For the first time in just over a year I only have one child in diapers. :)

5. I would love to write and have a children's book published someday.

6. I hate Halloween.

7. I don't have seven people I know that blog so I can't tag that many people.

I tag- Lissette, Edmond, Erin, Mandy, and Kimberly

"Joys" of Motherhood- Mealtime Edition

Cleaning these little faces up after they've enjoyed a good meal can be a lot of work. It is too fun to watch them making that mess to stop them though.

Help! I'm trapped inside!

Tanner really wanted to go outside earlier this afternoon. I told him he had to wait for Vance to get up from his nap.

Here he is waiting oh so patiently (eh-hem)...at least he found ways to entertain himself.
